Valves and fittings for shipbuilding and marine

Seawater pits standard stainless steel and strips zinc from brass. On ballast, bilge and cooling systems, material choice decides service life.

The challenge

What makes this service hard

The conditions that decide which valve, material and seal will last.

Chlorides

Seawater attacks 304 stainless and many brasses. Bronze, suitable stainless grades or lined valves last longer.

Space and weight

Lug butterfly valves save weight and space on large ballast and cooling lines.

Pump protection

Y-strainers ahead of pumps catch debris drawn in with seawater.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I use 304 stainless in seawater?

We do not recommend it. Chlorides cause pitting in 304. Bronze, suitable higher-alloy stainless or lined valves are better choices.

Do you supply for ship repair as well as new builds?

Yes. Send us the nameplate photos or old valve details and we will quote direct replacements.
